How would you describe your personal style?
I just dress comfortably, swaggy, with what feels good to me. I do not try to do what other people do, I just do me. The way I dress is, I buy a bunch of pieces all year and then figure out what to wear them with later. It's not always something I plan to do; whatever feels good to me, I do. I don't try to please anyone else.
What are your three style essentials that you think every person needs in their wardrobe?
I think a fly boot 100%, a fly jacket, you gotta have a fly leather jacket, and some fly sunglasses. All three of those you can always have a bomb outfit.
What do you like most about PHIX?
What I like the most about Phix is there are a lot of unique pieces, really unique and I think the designers have taken the time to craft and create the pieces. I come to shop at Phix to find some unique things that I can accessorize with my style, they have really unique pieces that have flair. and some je ne sais quoi. I take my hats off to the designers.
Best gig you’ve ever been to?
I've done Ultra Miami, I've done Tomorrowland, and I've done Summer Jam New York.
No one had ever done an 'and friends' type of set like that before, the two years I did that I brought out Pitbull, Daddy Yanky, Ice cube , Fat joe, Damian Marley, Bone crusher, Lil scrappy, Ying Ynag twins….I had a really crazy line ups.
One piece of clothing you can’t live without?
I have about eight motorcycle jackets, some studded and some plain. I love my leather jackets.
What’s your proudest clothing purchase?
My proudest clothing purchase is a leather jacket. I get all my leather jackets from my friend Christian Benna in New York. He makes jackets for some of the biggest rock stars, including Guns N' Roses and Mick Jagger. He doesn't just make jackets for anyone, so when I met him, I commissioned him to make me a Bad Brains jacket.
I always wanted an authentic punk jacket. As a punk skater in the 90s, I couldn't afford one of the biker jackets that were so popular. For my jacket, we cut up a vintage t-shirt and sewed it on the back. I also picked out a bunch of patches that he sewed on, and he studded and distressed the jacket. It was the sickest punk jacket I'd ever seen.
Is there anything you regret wearing? Why?
Yeah I go back and look at some of the stuff we wore in the 2000s and i”m like what the f*ck was I thinking. 4xl tshirts and jerseys, its like bro what the f*ck.
I think I wore a custom bulletproof vest to the mtv awards, that was a little eh. Yeah a lot of the early 2000s fashion choices, I was not in my swag era yet.
We’re really inspired by music history at PHIX. What is a song you can listen to on repeat?
I'm a really eclectic musical guy; I'm into classical pianos playing in my house. I listen to a lot of classical music. Jon Batiste Für Elise I can listen to over and over.
Who has inspired your style the most? / Style icon?
I would not say anyone has inspired my style, it is all my years on this earth and gaining knowledge.
Having stylists has made me realise they don't know me like that and they don't know what to pick for me. A lot of stylists pick for what is hot, not for your individual swag and individual personality.
It took me a lot of years to realize that, now I just buy a bunch of pieces and I figure out how to put it together later and that works the best for me.
